Gates take more abuse than any other part of a fence, so we build them heavier than the panels around them. A walk gate costs about $350–$900 each installed in Port St. Lucie, a double drive gate about $900–$2,500 each, and a rolling gate about $2,500–$8,000 each. We also add gates to existing fences and repair ones that have stopped working.
Gates we build
- Walk gates, usually 4 to 5 feet wide, wide enough for a mower and a wheelbarrow.
- Double drive gates for a car, trailer, boat or RV, typically 10 to 16 feet across two leaves.
- Rolling (cantilever or track) gates where there is no room for a gate to swing, common on driveways and commercial yards.
- Pool gates with self-closing hinges and self-latching hardware set at the required height. See pool fences.
- Automatic gates. Swing or slide openers with remotes or keypads, about $2,000–$6,000 installed including the opener, which needs a power supply nearby.
Why gates sag, and how we stop it
A gate hangs its whole weight off one post, and it gets slammed, leaned on and swung in the wind. If that post is the same size as the line posts, or is set shallow in sand, the gate drops within a season. We set gate posts deeper and in more concrete, reinforce vinyl gate posts with aluminum or steel inserts, build gate frames from metal, and use adjustable hinges so a small drop can be corrected later in minutes rather than by rebuilding.
Adding a gate to an existing fence
Want a second gate on the far side of the yard, or a wider opening to get a boat or a pool contractor's equipment through? We can cut an opening into most existing fences, set new posts and hang a matching gate. Where your fence style is discontinued, we will find the nearest match.
Gate repair
Re-hanging a dragging gate runs about $100–$400 per gate; new hinges, latches or drop rods about $75–$250 per gate. If the gate post itself has failed, it gets reset in concrete first. The price guide has the other repair prices.
About these prices: gate prices are estimates that depend on width, material and hardware. You will have a written figure before anything is ordered.
